ABOUT

Elephant in the Room

Elephant in the room is representative of the topic that everyone knows about, but no one wants to talk about.

It is a major problem or controversial issue that is obviously present but much easier to avoid because it feels more comfortable doing so. It takes tact, empathy, and courage to start these conversations but also to continue them. It is important to stop the gossip, rumors, and innuendos that typically follow these topics and start open discussions. What happens when we ask in the face of persisting overwhelming problems and pressure, what is the one thing that could be done to lift the burden in our own space, in our own mind, on own walls, and in our community. In many cases the reason why we avoid difficult topics or conversations are self-focused. How do we feel about it, how we see ourselves, not knowing what to do next. Instead, we need to see these elephants in the room as opportunities for growth where we can create a sense of belonging and community, be a source of support. If done successfully, as we step out of the shadows of silence, we will find liberation and empowerment.

Let's make room for everyone's elephants.
